Essential Oil vs. Fragrance Oil
While I try to stick mostly essential oils in my products, it is not always the right decision to use them. Most of the essential oils I use in my soaps are rather mild and sensitive skin safe due to the larger amount of oil it takes for the scent to actually stick during the saponification process. For things such as creams and balms I stick entirely to essential oils. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions on any of the products.
Essential oils and fragrance oils are both concentrated liquids with distinct scents, but they differ in their composition and how they are produced.
Essential oils are natural oils derived from plants through a process of steam distillation, cold pressing, or solvent extraction. They are made up of the volatile compounds found in the plant's leaves, stems, flowers, roots, or bark, and are highly concentrated. Essential oils are considered to be natural because they are derived directly from plants and do not contain any synthetic ingredients.
Fragrance oils, on the other hand, are synthetic oils that are designed to mimic the scent of natural oils or other fragrances. They are typically made from a blend of aroma, synthetic and natural ingredients. Fragrance oils can be created to smell like almost anything, including fruits, flowers, spices, and other scents.
In summary, essential oils are natural and derived directly from plants, while fragrance oils are synthetic and designed to mimic the scent of natural oils or other fragrances. Essential oils are often used in aromatherapy, while fragrance oils are commonly used in perfumes, candles, and other scented products.
